Oscar came home from school mad about circus skills, so this got wheeled out for a birthday party — and the moment I handed out the detective badges, five overexcited six-year-olds suddenly felt official and actually focused.

The story: Circus Magnifico is hours from its big opening-night gala when sabotage strikes. The tightrope has been cut, costumes are ruined, the poster’s been painted over — and one of the nine performers is definitely lying. Your kids become the investigators in this circus detective treasure hunt, working through eight stations of proper evidence: footprints in the ring, torn-up programme pieces to reassemble, fingerprint matches, coded messages, and alibis that don’t quite add up. At each station they cross another suspect off the list, until only the guilty performer is left standing in the spotlight.

The PDF includes the full read-aloud story with cues for each station, official detective badges and IDs for every child, a suspects card with all nine Circus Magnifico performers, both age versions — 6–9 with straightforward puzzles and shorter texts, 9–12 with trickier logic and real detective work — plus bonus games, invitations, certificates and a step-by-step leader’s cheat sheet.

Hannah’s honest tip: read the story aloud before you release them to the stations — it turns the whole thing into a real case rather than a dash between clues. And print the suspects card in colour if you can; faces keep younger detectives focused on actual deduction instead of wandering off.
