Detective Treasure Hunt

👶 Ages 6–12👥 4–12 players🎯 60–120 min play

Ey up — this one had our two convinced they'd cracked the case of the century.

When Lily turned seven, I knew a standard "follow the clues" hunt wouldn't cut it. So I created this one: a proper detective mystery where the kids aren't just finding things—they're solving a crime. Someone's stolen the magnificent emerald crown from King Eldor's museum in the town of Wimbledon, and your little detectives are the only ones who can catch the culprit.

You print it at home, set up eight stations around your house or garden, and the children work their way through riddles, clues and detective challenges until they piece together enough evidence to recover the crown. No apps, no screens—just proper investigative legwork.

📦 What you get in the PDF

  • A set of eight station cards brimming with age-adapted riddles and mystery clues—tricky enough for the nine-year-olds, solvable for the younger ones with a bit of grown-up nudging
  • Detective-style invitation cards to kick things off with proper intrigue
  • A treasure map that doubles as an evidence tracker (the kids mark each solved clue as they progress)
  • Station cards designed like case files, guiding the children through the mystery
  • A detective certificate for each child—proof of their investigative prowess
  • Two difficulty variations included, so you can pick the puzzle level that suits your crew
  • Clear step-by-step instructions for printing and setting up the eight stations
🎯
Best for: ages 6–12, indoors or in the garden, 4–12 little detectives. Budget 60–120 minutes depending on how thoroughly they want to "investigate" each station. The brilliant bit? Works anywhere—lounge, back garden, local park.
Hannah's honest tip: plant the final station somewhere you can steer them towards—at a party there's always one child determined to "solve it first," and knowing exactly where they should finish means fewer tears and more celebrations. Also, laminate the first clue card. Oscar's somehow managed to spill juice on every paper game we've ever done.

When does this hunt work best?

A detective birthday party for children who are ready for more than a simple “follow the clues” hunt — they solve a proper crime, the stolen emerald crown, station by station. It works in the lounge, the back garden or the local park, and two difficulty variations keep the nine-year-olds challenged while younger detectives get a bit of grown-up nudging. Allow about 30 minutes to set up.

Quick answer: a printable detective mystery treasure hunt for ages 6–12 and 4–12 players, with 8 stations, two difficulty variations and 60–120 minutes of play. Instant PDF — print it at home tonight.

A whodunit treasure hunt set in the bustling town of Wimbledon—kids play detectives hunting clues to recover a stolen emerald crown. 8 stations packed with riddles, teamwork & mystery. Mum-tested, print at home. Ages 6–12. Instant PDF.

★★★★★
Great idea for little sleuths.
My son (8) and his friends were thrilled! I particularly liked that the story runs through from beginning to end – that's not the case with many other treasure hunts. The preparation was easy, and the children had great fun with the puzzles. A little tip: it's best to plan the stations out well beforehand!

★★★★★
Lovely story with good instructions. We did it with 14 children for a 9th birthday. When it comes to setting up the individual stations, there are of course no limits to your creativity.
Despite these instructions, you should allow a certain amount of time for planning, but the €15 is well invested. The children really enjoyed it.
