This one actually made Lily want to go riding for real, which honestly wasn’t the plan when I printed it.

I created this for a rainy afternoon when our lot were obsessed with all things horses, and I wanted something that felt less “generic quest” and more “a proper day at a riding stables.” So every station in this treasure hunt is a real job Emma (the stablehand) needs help with—feeding the horses, mucking out boxes, preparing tack, even reading hoofprints like a proper groom.

You print it at home, set up eight stations around your house or garden, and the children work their way through a day at the stables, helping Emma look after the horses Max, Luna and Starlight. There’s riddles woven in, genuinely useful horse facts, and enough activity to keep even the most horse-mad kid properly occupied.

📦 What you get in the PDF

🎯

Best for: ages 6–12, indoors or outdoors, 2–12 horse-loving kids. Budget 60–120 minutes depending on how much you want to “gamify” the farm jobs. Genuinely works brilliant as a party theme for horse-mad kids, or just a rainy day with the obsessed ones.
Hannah’s honest tip: if you’ve got actual apples and buckets (even just toy ones), let the kids genuinely “feed” a toy horse or even a drawing of one at that station. Makes it feel proper. And having real horse facts to share—like how many hours a day horses sleep, or how you read a horse’s mood from its ears—turns it into learning they don’t realise is happening. Also, if you’ve got any old riding tack lying about, let them handle it. Kids find authentic stuff brilliant.

When does this hunt work best?

A horse-themed birthday party, or a rainy afternoon with a horse-mad child — every station is a real job at the riding stables, so it feels like a proper day helping out rather than a generic quest. It works indoors or in the garden, and the two difficulty levels cover children from six right up to twelve.

Quick answer: a printable horse and pony treasure hunt for ages 6–12 and 2–12 players, with 8 stations, two difficulty levels and 60–120 minutes of play. Instant PDF — print it at home tonight.

My daughter (7 years old) loves horses, and this treasure hunt was simply perfect for her birthday! The story got the children excited straight away, and the tasks were just right – not too easy, but not too hard either. I especially liked the lovingly designed illustrations and that the preparation was so easy.

Great mix of puzzles and movement. I organised the horse treasure hunt for the children in my riding group (6-9 years), and they were absolutely thrilled! The creative tasks where they had to move about went down especially well. It was all well thought out and easy to put into practice.

A complete success at the children's birthday party. We did the treasure hunt with 8 children (between 6 and 10 years old), and they thought it was brilliant! I especially liked how the story was built up in a really exciting way. The kids really felt like little horse detectives.

We used the treasure hunt for a children's group at the riding club, and it went down brilliantly! The children were fully involved, solved the puzzles and had loads of fun. The stations are varied, and the whole concept is really nicely thought out.
