Lily (our then-seven-year-old nature nut) spent the whole time doing what she called “detective sniffing,” which was hilarious and also genuine detective work.

Winter’s coming, and Clever Felix has lost the food store that all the woodland creatures need to survive. Owl, Hedgehog, Deer and the rest are counting on you. As a woodland rescuer, you’ll trek through eight stations of forest riddles and challenges, learning real facts about the animals who live there while you hunt for hidden supplies. It’s one of those treasures where the adventure and the learning sit side by side — no preaching, just kids discovering how woodland creatures actually live.

🎯

Best for: ages 4–12 (genuinely plays well across that whole range), indoors or in the garden/local woods, 2–10 hunters. This scales brilliantly — younger ones follow the story, older ones get the proper nature puzzles. Expect 60–120 minutes depending on distance and how deep you go into the bonus activities.
Hannah’s honest tip: if you can do this outdoors, brilliant — but our favourite version was actually in the garden with some branches piled up for a “forest.” Younger children love it when woodland is accessible. And that hedgehog fact (they eat beetles) became our Oscar’s dinner-table fact for weeks.

When does this hunt work best?

Autumn is its natural season — the story is all about the woodland animals getting ready for winter — but it works any time of year in the garden, the local woods or even the living room with a few branches piled up for a forest. With one version for ages 4–7 and one for 7–12 it plays well across a wide age range, which makes it a good pick for family days and mixed-age birthday parties.

Quick answer: a printable forest treasure hunt for ages 4–12 and 2–10 players, with 8 stations, two difficulty levels and 60–120 minutes of play. Instant PDF — print it at home tonight.

Lovely treasure hunt with a few room for improvement
The forest treasure hunt was a complete success! The kids had great fun, and the story really swept them along. A few puzzles were a bit tricky for our youngest (4 years old), but with a little help they managed. It would be nice if there were an option with extra tasks for older children. Otherwise, though, really great!

My niece is a huge unicorn fan, so this treasure hunt was the perfect gift for her. She and her friends were absolutely thrilled and threw themselves right into the adventure. The tasks are just right for the age (5-7 years), and everything simply fitted. A clear recommendation for all parents looking for a creative and lovingly made activity!

Dead easy to prepare & loads of fun for the kids! I used the treasure hunt for a nursery group, and the children were absolutely thrilled! The puzzles are varied, the story is exciting, and you can adapt it really well to your own location. I also loved the extras like the invitation and the certificate. There's really a lot of love in it!

We wanted to celebrate our son's birthday outdoors and tried this treasure hunt – it was the perfect decision! The children (5-7 years) were fully enthusiastic, felt like real treasure hunters and solved the tasks with great fun. The forest as the setting was perfect for the story!
