👶 Ages 4–9👥 3–15 players🎯 8 stations + warm-up

We saved this one for the first proper heatwave of the summer holidays — stations dotted round the garden, water relay saved for last — and every child went home gloriously soaked, which was rather the point.

It’s the hottest day of the summer, and Felix the Fox has just one place in mind: the secret forest lake, deep in the woods, where the magical water lilies open and all the pond animals hold their great Water-Lily Festival. Only when you finally get there the lake has turned murky and grey, the lilies are staying stubbornly shut, and the whole festival is in jeopardy. That’s the mission your kids take on in this summer treasure hunt — station by station they work out what’s gone wrong at the lake and put it right, sticking a badge onto their treasure map for every puzzle they crack.

The eight stations are a proper little pond-life lesson smuggled inside a game: tracing the one true path through the maze to the hidden lake, sorting the muddled fish shoal (counting for the little ones, sums for the older kids), cracking the fishes’ bubbly secret code, mending the water lilies’ colour pattern, puzzling out the wise old turtle’s riddle rhymes and word scrambles, matching woodland footprints to see whose tracks lead to the culprit, the otter’s memory-and-sudoku game, and a gloriously wet sponge relay to get the lake flowing clear again. And the “culprit”? A young otter who’s been splashing up the mud without ever meaning any harm — a lovely, gentle lesson about owning your mistakes and setting them right.

Every station comes in two versions — a simpler one for ages 4–6 and a trickier one for 6–9 — so mixed groups of 3 to 15 children all get puzzles that fit. A “gathering summer and water powers” warm-up, invitations, Summer Explorer certificates, a treasure map with reward stickers, a lake-animals spotting poster, bonus games and a full cheat sheet for the game leader are all in the instant-download PDF, and set-up is a quick 10–15 minutes.

Hannah’s honest tip: this one’s made for a hot day in the garden or the park — set a couple of buckets (or a paddling pool) by the water relay and keep that station till last, because there’s no keeping anyone dry once the sponges come out. Playing indoors? It still works a treat; just move the relay to the bathroom or swap it for one of the bonus games.
