Oscar reckoned he had to win this one because Hermes was “faster than everyone and he’s the god.”

I spotted this after Oscar became obsessed with ancient Greece at school, and honestly, it’s the cleverest way to get kids running about whilst doing proper thinking. You’re not just following a treasure hunt—you’re competing in the legendary games of Olympus under the watchful eye of Zeus, Athena and Poseidon, guided by Hermes, the fleet-footed messenger god.

You print it at home, set up eight stations across your house or garden, and the children work through athletic challenges and brain-teasers inspired by Greek mythology. There’s the Labyrinth of the Minotaur, the sacred torch relay, riddles from the gods themselves—and by the time they’ve finished, they’ve earned their laurel wreath of victory.

  • Challenges that blend athletic tasks with riddles and logic puzzles
  • Bonus challenge cards for kids who race through and want more
  • A personal “Olympic Medal” or “Laurel Wreath” certificate for each child
  • Three difficulty levels (ages 4–6, 6–9, and 9–12) so the puzzle difficulty scales with your group
  • Setup instructions that work indoors, outdoors, or anywhere in between

🎯

Best for: ages 4–12, indoors or (better) outdoors, 2–12 young athletes. Plan for 60–120 minutes depending on how many “relays” and “races” you want to include. This one’s brilliant for burning off energy—the kids genuinely run between stations, which keeps them chuffed and tired in equal measure.
Hannah’s honest tip: if you’ve got anything gold or shiny—even just gold-sprayed branches or paper crowns—the kids believe they’re proper Olympic champions at the end. And here’s summat I learned the hard way: set a time limit on the races between stations. Without one, the competitive kids will argue for twenty minutes about who was “really faster,” and you’ll age a decade.

When does this hunt work best?

A sunny day outdoors, when they need to burn off energy — the children genuinely run between stations, so the garden or a park is ideal. It’s a great sporty birthday party game and suits mixed ages thanks to three difficulty levels (4–6, 6–9 and 9–12). It works indoors too, but set a time limit on the races or the competitive ones will argue all afternoon.

Quick answer: a printable Olympic-style sports day treasure hunt for ages 4–12 and 2–12 players, with 8 stations, three difficulty levels and 60–120 minutes of play. Instant PDF — print it at home tonight.

★★★★★
Great idea! Our children (6–8 years) felt like real athletes in ancient Greece. The relay race with the torches was of course the highlight, but the puzzles about the gods also went down brilliantly. I particularly like that there are three age levels so even the younger cousins could join in.

Very nice mix of movement and brainwork. Just one star off because the preparation took me a bit longer than expected. Otherwise absolutely recommendable.
